If you have found an item you would like to bid on - click the bid icon or scrolldown to the bottom of the page. The current price, the bid increment and the minimum bid will be shown. In the text field enter your maximum bid - or proxy bid.
Auction - Bidding on an auction is done in specified increments.
The user with the highest sucessful bid "wins" the auction and the
ability to purchase the item. Auctions use Proxy Bidding (see
definition below).
Proxy Bidding - An automatic method of bidding that increases
your bid to the next lowest price when another user bids on the
same item. Your bid is increased until your maximum bid amount is
reached or the auction ends.
Donor Value, True Value, & Minimum Bid
In item descriptions you may will see three different prices. The donor value is the cost of the item being donated. Winning bids above the donor value may be tax deductible and the winners will receive a tax letter from SIS in that amount. (Please consult your tax professional.) True Value is listed for items that are essentially priceless yet have to be assigned a value.
Minimum & Maximum Bids
Minimum bid is the price required to be met to bid on an item. No lower bids will be taken. Maximum bid is defined as the highest purchase price you are willing to pay for an item and is used for proxy bidding (see below).
What is a proxy bid?
The Shivas Irons Society encourages you to take advantage of our proxy bidding. A proxy bid is another way to say maximum bid. Proxy bidding allows you to place a bid for the maximum amount you wish to pay for an item. Your maximum bid is not disclosed and as other users bid on the item, the Auction will incrementally bid for you until you win the item or up to the maximum amount of your proxy bid.
Placing a Bid
When you have selected an item to bid on, you can either click on the bid icon on the left of your screen or by scrolling to the bottom of the page and entering your maximum bid. You will be asked to confirm your bid.
Winning Bids
Winning bids will be notified via email. SIS will contact you following the Auction about payment.
Bidding: General
Note: This is a private auction and the "Seller" in the following information refers to The Shivas Irons Society (SIS)
- Currently watching # listings – The total number of open and closed
listings on your watch list
- Currently bidding on # listings – The number of listings you have
entered a bid for
- Currently winning # listings – The number of listings where you are
the high bidder (listings that have not closed)
- Total Items won: # - The total number of items where you were the
high bidder when the listing closed
- Contact Seller – An email will be sent containing the message that
is entered into the contact user form.
Ask The Seller - At the bottom of every listing there is a "Comments"
section where you can ask the Seller a question, or view previous questions
from other users. When submitting a question to a Seller, the message gets
sent directly to their email address on file. The Seller can respond by
following the link in the email.
To ask the Seller a question:
- Log into your account.
- Go to the Item listing.
- Scroll down to the section marked "Comments."
- Click the text "Ask the seller a question." This will take you to a Contact User form.
- Enter your message.
- Click "Send" button.
Your Watch List
- Price – The current price of the item
- Shipping Cost - The cost to ship the item as defined by the seller
- Seller ID – The user selling the item
- # Bids – Total number of bids the item has received, or the total
number of items sold in a fixed price listing
- Time Left – The amount of time until the listing ends (this time may
extend if sniper protection/popcorn bidding is enabled)
- Listing Number – The listing number is displayed in ( ) parenthesis
- Listing Title – The listing title is displayed after the listing number
How to remove an Item from your watch list:
1. Check the box associated with the listing to be removed
from the watch list.
2. Click the “Remove from list” button located at the bottom
of the watch list.

Current Price – The current winning bid

My Max Bid – The maximum amount you have bid on a listing

Time Left – The amount of time until the listing ends (this time may
extend if sniper protection/popcorn bidding is enabled)

Sale Price – The amount of the sale (highest accepted bid or fixed
price)

Quantity – Number of items you have selected to purchase

Total Price – The total price due including shipping and tax (if
added by the seller)

(Price x Quantity)+(Shipping x Quantity) + Tax = Total Price
Or
(Price x Quantity) + Shipping + Tax = Total Price
- Pay Via PayPal – This button is available if the seller includes
PayPal payment information when listing the item.
- Contact Seller - An email will be sent containing the message that
is entered into the contact user form.
